Events: list and sign-up
Anyone reads the list of events, each an instance of an activity such as an info table or a trailhead outreach day, with its date, place and equipment list. Each event has its own page: time, location, organizing contact, a link to the organizer's page, the event contact, the equipment list (a Google Doc) and who has signed up. A signed-in steward or patroller takes a place and can cancel it; the site emails a confirmation with a calendar file and one reminder at noon PT the day before. At launch the list is typed into the admin from the Patrol's events sheet and is read only; sign-up follows once sign-in is live.
Launch order (Jamie, 2026-10-14 PT): the event list first, read only, then sign-up. The screen's ticket is #185 (filed 2026-10-22 PT): the event from creation to close, its page, sign-ups and the copy-emails link.

Three ways to build it
Low not chosen
The list, typed into the admin, read by anyone. No sign-up on the site; places are arranged by email as today. The launch state.
Medium committed
The list plus sign-up and cancel for signed-in people, a confirmation email and one reminder. Committed, as the second step of the launch order.
High not chosen
The medium level plus a waitlist, a public calendar feed replacing WordPress's, and changes mailed to everyone signed up.
What the tests prove
- No sign-inthe list needs no sign-in.
- Cancela sign-up can be cancelled, from the page and from the reminder's link.
- Fulla full event refuses a new sign-up and says so.
- Copyan event's equipment list starts as its activity's and changes for that event alone.
- Calendarthe confirmation carries an .ics file and the event page offers the same file.
- Emailsthe copy-emails link holds every signed-up address and nobody else's.
Measurements
Counted on the wireframe; live numbers come from the usage compartment once the screen exists.
Decided
- Who signed up is shown to everyone signed in; the copy-emails link is for anyone signed up for that event (Jamie, 2026-10-22 PT, #185).
- Two contacts: the organizing contact is who created or coordinates the event for the program; the event organizer is the outside contact for the event itself. For a workshop run by the avalanche center, the organizing contact is Jamie and the event organizer is the center's contact (Jamie, 2026-10-22 PT, #185).
- The event's own page shows time, location, organizing contact, a link to the organizer's page, the event contact and who has signed up, with a link that copies every signed-up email for BCC, as on Write With Janet (Jamie, 2026-10-22 PT, #185).
- The equipment list is a link to a Google Doc, one for outreach events and one for every other event, shown on the event's page (Jamie, 2026-10-22 PT, #185).
- One reminder, at noon PT the day before; the confirmation attaches an .ics file, also downloadable from the event's page (Jamie, 2026-10-22 PT, #42).
- A full event refuses new sign-ups; no waitlist this winter. A cancellation frees the place for anyone (Jamie, 2026-10-22 PT, #185).
